Teignhead Farm Clapper Bridge, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

Teignhead Farm Clapper Bridge, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

The North Teign River can be a formidable natural barrier preventing you from walking to Dartmoor's north plateau from the Chagford, Fernworthy Forest and Postbridge areas. Thankfully, there are a number of clapper bridges providing safe passage over the water. The most famous is Teign-e-ver Clapper Bridge by Batworthy Corner. Upstream, there's also Teignhead Farm Clapper Bridge between the western border of Fernworthy Forest and the ruined Teignhead Farm.

We've positioned Teignhead Farm Clapper Bridge on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location.

From the bridge, follow the wide grass track that climbs north of Manga Brook up Manga Hill to get to the high stuff. You'll pass Manga Hill Cairn and Watern Tor before dropping down to Walla Brook. From there, Dartmoor's north plateau and all its tors and hills are in front of you.
