Meldon Hill Circular Walk, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

Meldon Hill Circular Walk, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

Meldon Hill is the peak above Chagford. There's a road that runs from the centre of Chagford that loops around the hill. Whilst there are plenty of parking spots on the side of the road, we'd recommend starting where we've located the marker on the Google map provided.

Follow one of the paths that have been cut through the ferns to the rocks and summit. There's a trig point marking the latter.

The view from here is as good as anything in the Park. Chagford's below, Castle Drogo and the Teign Gorge to the north east. To the west and north west are the high moors including Yes Tor and High Willhays on a clear day. The dome of high ground to the north west is Cosdon Hill (Cawsand Hill). To the south west is Haytor Rocks.

From the summit of Meldon Hill circle round to the car parking area from which you started. It's a gentle walk.

If you fancy something a little more strenuous, start from the centre of Chagford and head up the hill. It's steep but there's a well worn path. In winter, if there's snow around, it's a great way to gain height without driving.
