Manga Hole Waterfall, North Teign River, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

Manga Hole Waterfall, North Teign River, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

Manga Hill rises towards some of the highest ground in Dartmoor National Park between Hangingstone Hill and Whitehorse Hill. The North Teign River flows fast around the eastern side of Manga Hill cutting a steep-sided valley called Manga Hole. In this striking, remote valley is Manga Hole Waterfall where the North Teign River tumbles over granite before running slow to Batworthy Mires.

We've positioned Manga Hole Waterfall on Google maps. Zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location.

To visit, we'd recommend walking out from Fernworthy Forest. Driving from Chagford, follow the road that runs around Fernworthy Forest. There's a turning circle and limited parking at its end. Walk the path that's marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map to the edge of Fernworthy Forest. You'll see the ruin of Teignhead Farm in front of you. Walk towards it. Cross the clapper bridge that spans the North Teign River. You are now at the bottom of Manga Hill. Walk north into Manga Hole. You'll hear the waterfall. Retrace your steps.

Alternatively, walk in from Batworthy Corner. Follow the moorland road from Chagford to Teigncombe and Batworthy Corner. Walk across Shovel Down to the edge of Fernworthy. After dry weather, walk from the edge of the forest direct to Manga Hole. After wet weather, continue down the side of Fernworthy Forest until you see Teignhead Farm. Cross the clapper and walk north into Manga Hole.

Remote, squat waterfalls in Dartmoor National Park include Yealm Steps Waterfall.

For high waterfalls, visit Canonteign Falls and Lydford Gorge White Lady Waterfall.
