Manga Hill, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

Walking Manga Hill is one of the quickest, safest ways to get from the eastern side of Dartmoor's north moor to its high plateau around Hangingstone Hill. The wider area is crossed by rivers, streams, brooks and extensive sections of boggy land and mires. After wet weather, it's always a relief to walk on firm ground to the high plateau. Manga Hill provides this.

From Batworthy Corner, Fernworthy Forest or Postbridge, head for the ruined Teignhead Farm just north of Sittaford Tor. Cross Teignhead Farm Clapper Bridge and grass tracks take you north of Manga Brook and up Manga Hill to a farm wall and Manga Hill Cairn. Other grass tracks then run to Watern Tor and Hangingstone Hill. Note that the terrain around Walla Brook Head is hard going so we wouldn't particularly recommend the direct route from Manga Hill to Whitehorse Hill. That said, it's possible to cross direct to Whitehorse Hill Peat Pass.

The North Teign River flows around the base of Manga Hill. It cuts a wonderful valley in which you'll find the impressive Manga Hole Waterfall.
