Green Combe, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

You're not likely to walk in Green Combe. However, if you're on holiday in Dartmoor for a period of time and you're exploring the National Park, it's very likely that you'll see it. Located by a popular viewpoint, the area can get very crowded in high summer.

The B3212 is Dartmoor's main trans-moorland road. Moving east to west, it rises from Moretonhampstead to the luxury hotel Bovey Castle and then climbs to a car parking area on the edge of the high moorland. This is the popular viewpoint to which we refer above. From the car parking area, the moor drops steeply into Green Combe to the west.

Visit for the view. It's a nice place for a picnic. There's usually an ice cream van and ponies by the parking area. Paths do drop down into Green Combe and it is on the edge of open access moorland. It's just a hard climb back up. These paths are marked as dotted black lines on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map.

We've positioned Green Combe on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location.
