Fernworthy Cairn Circle and Cist, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

Fernworthy Cairn Circle and Cist, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

Superb example of a burial chamber, or cist, on the edge of Fernworthy Reservoir.

We've positioned Fernworthy Cairn Circle and Cist on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location.

To visit, we'd recommend starting from the car park at the entrance to Fernworthy Forest. Follow the path north east around the edge of Fernworthy Reservoir to its impressive dam. The path drops down to the foot of the dam and then climbs to the far side of the reservoir. Continue on the path around the water's edge and you'll come to Fernworthy Cairn Circle and Cist. It's set back from the path but is relatively easy to find.

Alternatively, drive past the main car park at the entrance to Fernworthy Forest and continue to the end of the road at the south western section of the reservoir. There's a large turning circle with limited parking. You walk clockwise around the reservoir to get to the cairn circle and cist.

Last, you can see Fernworthy Cairn Circle and Cist as part of the Fernworthy Reservoir Circular Walk.
