Deer Stalkers Paths, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

The Teign Gorge (National Trust), located in the north eastern section of Dartmoor National Park near Chagford, is known for its natural beauty. Castle Drogo (National Trust) is at the western end of the gorge. Fingle Bridge is to the east. Most people walk between these two attractions when exploring the Teign Gorge. In recent years, however, other paths have been improved and signposted under the general name of the Deer Stalkers Paths to help visitors explore other areas within the gorge. We'd recommed walking them.

The Deer Stalkers Paths run along the gorge walls south of the river.* If you're walking in from Fingle Bridge, follow the steep path that rises from Fingle Bridge towards Cranbrook Castle. You'll pass a sign for the Lower Deer Stalkers Path and then, a little further on, the Upper Deer Stalkers Path. Follow either sign.

If you're walking in from Iron Bridge below Castle Drogo, follow the south bank of the river and you'll come to a sign that directs you to the Deer Stalkers Paths. There are superb views across the gorge to Castle Drogo and Sharp Tor. You can also access Cranbrook Castle via these paths.

*Castle Drogo is on the northern side of the Teign Gorge. Well known paths such as the Hunter's Path and the Fisherman's Path run along the gorge north of the river.
