House of Marbles and Teign Valley Glass, Bovey Tracey, Dartmoor National Park

When we first popped into the House of Marbles and Teign Valley Glass to research the attraction, we ended up spending most of the day there. It's a cluster of visitor attractions under one roof. In parts, it's a fascinating place. If you're into shopping, history or the arts then we'd recommend a visit.

A large section of the House of Marbles and Teign Valley Glass is dedicated to shopping. Clearly, given the attraction's name, there's a lot of glassware for sale but there's also a huge range of other products merchandised across two floors.

Beyond the shopping areas are various museums. These cover the local pottery industry, marbles, glassware and games. The highlight is, arguably, the glass blowing area at the back of the building. You watch glass blowers at work. There's a viewing area above with interesting information boards. Note that it gets hot in there.

Doorways lead outside. You'll find an outdoor restaurant area and kids' play section by three huge chimneys. These are what remain of a once thriving local pottery industry. The story of this industry is told in the pottery museum which is built around an amazing model reconstruction of the pottery.

There's a restaurant on site in which to grab a drink and bite to eat as you move from attraction to attraction within the House of Marbles and Teign Valley Glass.
