Bellever Tor & Forest Circular Walk, Bellever, Dartmoor National Park

Bellever Tor & Forest Circular Walk, Bellever, Dartmoor National Park

Bellever Tor

Explore the heart of Dartmoor around Bellever Tor. The tor is a local beauty spot known for its excellent panoramic views.

We describe lots of different routes to this beauty spot in our Bellever Tor listing. The circular walk outlined below takes in forest, moorland and tors so provides a variety of Dartmoor experiences. There are more direct routes outlined in that Bellever Tor listing.

Start at Bellever Forest car park

Start in the Bellever Forest car park by Bellever village. There's a large car parking area in Bellever Forest by the East Dart River. This area is popular for family picnics. To get to this car parking area, head for Postbridge and take the turning to Bellever. Drive through the village and follow signs for the car park.

Laughter Tor

Walk south from the car parking area to Laughter Hole Farm. This route is marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map. Beyond Laughter Hole Farm, you'll come to a gate where forest meets open moor.

Either yomp up to Laughter Tor across rugged terrain and then proceed to Bellever Tor or loop around Laughter Tor on the paths marked on the OS map.

Views

The views from Bellever Tor, as we mention, are excellent. You'll see Haytor Rocks and Fernworthy Forest , Higher White Tor and the mass of South Dartmoor. It's an exceptional 360 from the heart of Dartmoor.

Lichway/Lych Way

Finish by following the wide grass track that descends north of Bellever Tor for about a kilometre until you come to the ancient Lichway/Lych Way which takes you down to Bellever and Bellever Forest car park. Again, the path that takes you to Bellever is marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map.

Postbridge Clapper Bridge and the Princetown National Park Visitor Centre

After the walk, if you have time, we'd suggest a visit to both Postbridge Clapper Bridge and Postbridge National Park Visitor Centre.
